> STEP 1: GET THE MOTOCUTZ TEMPLATE
Download or Access the Template
- Visit Motocutz Front Plate Decal
- Take a screenshot of the design you want to use
- Save the image to your computer
Tip: Make sure to get a high-quality screenshot so the design is crisp when printed.
> STEP 2: PREPARE IN CRICUT DESIGNER
Import & Size Your Design
- Open Cricut Designer software
- Import your Motocutz screenshot
- Scale the design to the standard size: 22cm length × 16.75cm height
- Make sure the design stays within printable/cuttable margins
Note: Cricut Designer is the best software for this job—it handles the entire workflow from printing to cutting.
> STEP 3: PRINT YOUR DESIGN
Print on Quality Sticker Paper
- Load sticker paper into your printer
- In Cricut Designer, go to Print Settings and select glossy sticker paper
- Print your design at the desired size
- Let the ink dry completely (1-2 minutes)
Tip: Glossy sticker paper gives the best color vibrancy and finish.
> STEP 4: APPLY LAMINATE TO PRINTED DESIGN
Laminate While on Paper (Before Cutting)
- Peel back the backing layer just a few inches
- Carefully align the laminate with your printed design on the sticker paper
- GO SLOW! Use a credit card or squeegee to slowly apply the laminate
- Work from the top down to minimize air bubbles
- Go slow and steady! This is the most important step rushing causes mistakes
Why Laminate First: Applying laminate before cutting makes your finished decal way more waterproof and durable. It seals the printed design and protects it from moisture, fading, and damage.
> STEP 5: CUT OUT YOUR LAMINATED DESIGN
Trim the Laminated Decal
- Once laminate is fully applied and dry, use sharp scissors or a craft knife to trim out your design
- Cut as close to the design edge as possible for a professional look
- Remove the backing layer from the laminated decal
> STEP 6: PREPARE THE SURFACE
Clean & Align
- Clean the front plate surface with soap and water, then dry completely
- Wipe with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils or dust
- Let dry for 1-2 minutes
> STEP 7: FINAL APPLICATION TO YOUR PART
Install Your Finished Decal
- Peel off the backing layer from your laminated decal
- Carefully position it on your front plate, ensuring perfect alignment
- Once positioned, press down gently from the center outward
Pro Tip: If you need to reposition, slowly peel back and reapply. The laminate layer protects the design during this process.
> KEY TIPS FOR SUCCESS
- Alignment is Everything: Take extra time in steps 4 and 7 to get perfect positioning
- Go Slow with Laminate: Rushing causes air bubbles—use steady, firm pressure
- Squeegee Technique: Work from center outward to push air toward the edges
- Use Quality Sticker Paper: Glossy sticker paper produces vibrant, professional-looking results
- Clean Surface is Critical: A dirty surface is the #1 cause of adhesion failures
- Cricut Designer: It's the best software because it handles sizing and printing together seamlessly
> TROUBLESHOOTING
- Air Bubbles Won't Go Away: Wait overnight I find that the bubbles often disappear on their own after 24 hours
- Decal Peels Up: You didn't clean the surface when you applied the decal; re-stick with firm pressure or use a drop of superglue on the back.
- Wrinkles in Design: You went too fast—slow down and smooth as you apply
- Colors Look Dull: Use glossy photo paper instead of regular paper for better color
